COLONIAL_BASTARD_RHODES_001

What better day than April Fool's to highlight the blunders of society via typography?! Designer and Typographer Osmond Tshuma has created a typeface that critiques colonialism in South Africa. He determined what this typeface should look like by researching key characteristics and fonts from the colonial era. Kindly calling his typeface the Colonial Bastard Rhodes Typeface, this legible and postmodern typography has complex concepts.

He's even included examples of the "colonial bastards" as you can see in the third image. From left to right they are Cecil John Rhodes, H. M. Stanley, Otto Van Bismarck and David Livingstone. Osmond uses history as his inspiration, and he's included images and rationale that detail his creative process for the typeface.

Osmond was born in Zimbabwe, and last year he received his Bachelor of Technology in Graphic Design from the University of Johannesburg. His Behance page indicates he's got quite a broad creative background, from branding peanut flour to a suburb in Johannesburg.
